Ingredients

  • 1 cup quick-cooking grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup whole milk

  • 1 cup smoked sausage, sliced

  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
  • 0.5 cup diced tomato
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, bring the water and salt to a boil over medium heat.

Step 2

Slowly stir in the grits, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Reduce the heat to low and cook, stirring frequently, for about 5-7 minutes or until the grits are thick and creamy.

Stir in the milk and 2 tablespoons of butter. Adjust seasoning if needed, then cover and keep warm.
