Ingredients

  • 4 medium Apples (e.g., Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 50 grams Granulated sugar (for apples)
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon Salted butter (for greasing)
  • 120 grams All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 60 grams Unsalted butter (melted and cooled)
  • 100 grams Granulated sugar (for batter)
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 120 milliliters Whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar (for topping)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a medium-sized baking dish with 1 tablespoon of butter.

Step 2

Layer the sliced apples evenly in the baking dish. Sprinkle the 50 grams of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon over the apples. Set aside while preparing the batter.

Step 3

In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Step 4

In a larger bowl, whisk together the melted butter and 100 grams of granulated sugar until well combined.

Step 5

Add the eggs one at a time to the butter-sugar mixture, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract.

Step 6

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing gently until a smooth batter forms.

Step 7

Pour the batter over the prepared apples, spreading it out evenly with a spatula.

Step 8

Sprinkle the 2 tablespoons of brown sugar evenly over the batter for a caramelized topping.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a skewer inserted into the pudding comes out clean.

Step 10

Let the pudding cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
