Ingredients

  • 1 cup (softened, divided) Unsalted butter
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups (packed, divided) Brown sugar
  • 14 ounces (1 can) Sweetened condensed milk
  • 0.25 cup Corn syrup
  • 2 cups Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour and 1/2 cup of softened unsalted butter. Mix until crumbly.

Step 3

Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form the crust.

Step 4

Bake the crust for 12-15 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove from oven and let it cool slightly.

Step 5

While the crust is baking, prepare the caramel filling. In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the remaining 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, 1 cup of brown sugar, sweetened condensed milk, and corn syrup.

Step 6

Cook the caramel mixture, stirring constantly, until it thickens and turns a golden brown color, about 10 minutes.

Step 7

Pour the hot caramel filling evenly over the baked crust and spread it out smoothly with a spatula.

Step 8

Bake the bars for an additional 12-15 minutes, just until the caramel is set. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes.

Step 9

While the bars are cooling, melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring after each interval until smooth.

Step 10

Stir in vanilla extract and salt into the melted chocolate, then pour the mixture over the caramel layer.

Step 11

Use a spatula to spread the chocolate evenly. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan until the chocolate is set, about 2 hours or refrigerate for quicker setting.

Step 12

Once cooled, cut into 16 squares and serve. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
