Ingredients

  • 170 grams Unsalted butter
  • 300 grams Brown sugar, packed
  • 250 grams All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 pieces Eggs, large
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 200 grams Mixed nuts (e.g., pecans, almonds, walnuts), chopped

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F) and grease a 9x13 inch (23x33 cm) baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, cream together 115 grams (about 1/2 cup) of the butter and 100 grams (about 1/2 cup) of the brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Step 3

Gradually mix in the flour until the mixture forms a crumbly dough.

Step 4

Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan to create the base layer, then bake for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly while preparing the topping.

Step 5

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the remaining 55 grams (about 1/4 cup) of butter. Stir in the remaining 200 grams (about 1 cup) of brown sugar until smooth.

Step 6

Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then whisk in the eggs one at a time until fully incorporated.

Step 7

Add the baking powder and salt to the mixture, then fold in the chopped nuts.

Step 8

Pour the nut mixture evenly over the baked crust and spread it out with a spatula to cover the entire surface.

Step 9

Return the baking pan to the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the topping is set and golden brown.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares or bars.

Step 11

Serve the bars as they are or with a dollop of whipped cream for an extra treat. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
