Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small Green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Prepared yellow mustard
  • 2 tbsp Brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Ground black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp Paprika
  • 6 Sandwich buns
  • 2 tbsp Butter, melted (optional for toasting buns)

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until browned and fully cooked, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess grease if needed.

Step 2

Reduce the heat to medium. Add the finely chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet with the cooked beef. Sauté until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.

Step 3

Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, yellow mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well to evenly combine.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to low and allow the mixture to simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, to let the flavors meld together.

Step 5

While the meat mixture simmers, toast the buns if desired. Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat, brush the cut sides of the buns with melted butter, and toast for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

Step 6

Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.

Step 7

Optional: Serve with potato chips, a side salad, or your favorite pickles for a complete meal.
