Ingredients

  • 16 ounces Extra-firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons Vegan butter
  • 4 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Sea salt
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (vegan-friendly)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 cup Vegetable broth
  • 3 Green onions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 loaf French bread or crusty bread for serving

Directions

Step 1

Wrap the extra-firm tofu in paper towels and place a heavy object (like a skillet) on top to press out excess moisture for about 15 minutes. Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes.

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the tofu cubes and pan-fry them until golden and crispy on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and melt 4 tablespoons of vegan butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 4

Stir in the Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, black pepper, and sea salt, and let them cook for about 30 seconds to bloom the spices.

Step 5

Pour in the vegan Worcestershire sauce, fresh lemon juice, and vegetable broth. Stir and let the sauce simmer gently for 2-3 minutes to thicken slightly.

Step 6

Return the crispy tofu to the skillet, tossing it in the sauce to coat evenly. Let the tofu cook in the sauce for another 3-4 minutes, allowing it to absorb the flavors.

Step 7

Garnish with sliced green onions and fresh parsley. Serve hot with French bread or crusty bread for dipping into the flavorful Cajun sauce.
