Ingredients

  • 3 pounds Pork spareribs
  • 0.5 cups Brown sugar
  • 0.5 cups Soy sauce
  • 0.5 cups Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Honey
  • 2 tablespoons Apple cider vinegar
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger, finely grated
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground black pepper
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Water (for slurry)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).

Step 2

Rinse the spareribs under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Trim excess fat if needed.

Step 3

Cut the rack of ribs into individual ribs or smaller portions for easier handling, if desired.

Step 4

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together brown sugar, soy sauce, ketchup, honey, apple cider vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, ground black pepper, and 1 cup of water. This will be your marinade and sauce.

Step 5

Place the spareribs into a large baking dish in a single layer. Pour the marinade evenly over the ribs, ensuring every piece is well coated.

Step 6

Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for 2 hours, basting the ribs with the marinade every 30 minutes.

Step 7

After 2 hours, remove the foil and increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C). Continue baking for an additional 20–30 minutes, basting the ribs occasionally, until the sauce becomes sticky and the ribs develop a rich caramelized color.

Step 8

Remove the ribs from the oven and transfer them to a serving platter.

Step 9

To thicken the remaining sauce, pour it into a saucepan and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry. Gradually stir the slurry into the simmering sauce, cooking until it reaches your desired consistency.

Step 10

Drizzle the thickened sauce over the ribs, or serve it on the side for dipping.

Step 11

Garnish with chopped fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro, if desired, and serve hot with your favorite sides.
