Ingredients

  • 6 cups (cubed) Day-old bread (preferably brioche or challah)
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 0.75 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup Brown sugar
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 0.5 cup Raisins (optional)
  • 0 to taste Powdered sugar (for garnish, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Whisk thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and uniform.

Step 3

Place the cubed bread into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly. If using raisins, sprinkle them throughout the bread cubes.

Step 4

Pour the custard mixture over the bread. Gently press down on the bread with a spatula to ensure it soaks up the liquid. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to absorb the custard.

Step 5

Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the soaked bread mixture.

Step 6

Transfer the dish to the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 7

Remove the bread pudding from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.

Step 8

Optionally, dust the bread pudding with powdered sugar before serving for an extra touch of sweetness. Serve warm on its own or with a dollop of whipped cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
