Ingredients

  • 6 cups (crumbled) cornbread
  • 4 cups (crumbled) stale white bread
  • 1 cup (melted) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups (finely chopped) yellow onion
  • 1.5 cups (finely chopped) celery
  • 0.5 cup (chopped) fresh parsley
  • 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 cups chicken or turkey stock
  • 3 large (beaten) eggs

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine crumbled cornbread and stale white bread. Mix until evenly distributed, and set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the chopped onion and celery, and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and fragrant. Remove from heat.

Step 4

Add the cooked onion and celery mixture to the bowl of bread crumbs. Mix well.

Step 5

Stir in the chopped parsley, poultry seasoning, dried sage, salt, and black pepper. Mix until the seasonings are evenly distributed.

Step 6

Gradually pour the chicken or turkey stock over the bread mixture, stirring gently until the dressing is moistened but not soggy.

Step 7

Add the beaten eggs to the mixture and stir thoroughly to combine.

Step 8

Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Step 9

Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 40-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the dressing is set in the center.

Step 10

Allow the cornbread dressing to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
