Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 pieces lasagna noodles
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Heat a large skillet or pot over medium heat, and cook the ground beef and Italian sausage until browned. Drain any excess grease if needed.

Step 3

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 4-5 minutes until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant.

Step 4

Stir in the tomato paste and cook for another 2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 5

Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir well, lower the heat, and let the sauce simmer uncovered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

While the sauce is simmering, boil the lasagna noodles in a large pot of salted water according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 7

Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 8

Place a single layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce, trimming if necessary to fit.

Step 9

Spread another layer of meat sauce over the noodles, followed by a layer of shredded mozzarella cheese and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

Step 10

Repeat the layering process (noodles, meat sauce, mozzarella, Parmesan) until you use up the ingredients, ending with a layer of cheese on the top.

Step 11

Cover the lasagna with aluminum foil, ensuring it doesn't touch the cheese, and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Step 12

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.

Step 13

Allow the lasagna to cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
