Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
  • 14.5 ounces canned diced tomatoes
  • 8 ounces canned tomato sauce
  • 1 cup black olives, sliced
  • 8 ounces egg noodles (or spaghetti), uncooked
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and green bell pepper. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.

Step 3

Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook and crumble the meat until browned and fully cooked, about 7 minutes. Drain off any excess grease.

Step 4

Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, and black pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

Step 5

While the meat sauce simmers, cook the egg noodles (or spaghetti) in a large pot of salted boiling water according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 6

Add the cooked pasta to the meat sauce in the skillet. Toss until the noodles are well coated with the sauce.

Step 7

Stir in the sliced black olives. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 8

Layer half of the meat and pasta mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle one cup of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.

Step 9

Repeat with the remaining meat and pasta mixture, followed by another cup of shredded cheddar cheese.

Step 10

Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 11

Remove from the oven and let the casserole cool slightly for 5 minutes before serving.

Step 12

Serve warm and enjoy a hearty, cheesy bite of My Grandmother's Tallerini!
