Ingredients

  • 12 sheets Lasagna noodles
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1.5 pounds Ground beef
  • 1 pound Ground Italian sausage
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 15 ounces Tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 large Egg
  • 3 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 4 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Boil a large pot of salted water, cook the lasagna noodles until al dente according to package instructions, drain, and set aside on a flat surface to prevent sticking.

Step 3

In a large skillet or pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and Italian sausage, breaking up the meats as they cook, until browned, about 7-8 minutes.

Step 4

Add the chopped onion and garlic to the meat and sauté until softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 5

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, sugar, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Lower the heat, cover, and let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

In a medium mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and parsley. Mix until well combined.

Step 7

Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish lightly with olive oil or cooking spray.

Step 8

Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce (about 1 cup) evenly over the bottom of the dish.

Step 9

Layer 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture evenly on the noodles. Sprinkle 1 cup of mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese on top.

Step 10

Add another layer of 1 cup of meat sauce and repeat the layering process (noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, sauce) two more times.

Step 11

Finish with the remaining meat sauce and a generous topping of the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.

Step 12

Cover the lasagna tightly with aluminum foil (avoid touching the cheese to prevent sticking).

Step 13

Bake the lasagna in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese on top is golden and bubbly.

Step 14

Allow the lasagna to rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
