Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large yellow onion, finely diced
  • 3 stalks celery, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 5 cups day-old bread, cubed
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 3 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sage, dried
  • 1 teaspoon thyme, dried
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg, beaten

Directions

Step 1

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion, chopped celery, and minced garlic. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are soft and fragrant.

Step 2

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground pork and ground beef to the skillet. Cook until the meat is browned and fully cooked, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat, if necessary.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed day-old bread, cooked meat mixture, parsley, sage, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Toss to evenly distribute the ingredients.

Step 4

Pour the chicken broth over the bread mixture a little at a time, stirring to moisten. The bread should be soft but not soggy. Adjust the amount of chicken broth as needed.

Step 5

Stir in the beaten egg to bind the stuffing mixture together.

Step 6

If stuffing a turkey, loosely fill the turkey cavity with the mixture just before roasting. Do not pack the stuffing too tightly, as it needs room to expand during cooking. Alternatively, transfer the stuffing to a greased baking dish.

Step 7

If baking in a dish, cover the stuffing with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated 375°F (190°C) oven for 35-40 minutes. Remove the foil for the last 10 minutes of baking to allow the top to brown.

Step 8

Serve hot as a delicious complement to your roasted turkey and other holiday dishes!
