Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup button mushrooms
  • 0.5 medium onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons parsley
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon flour

Directions

Step 1

Finely chop the mushrooms, onion, and garlic.

Step 2

Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped mushrooms, onion, and garlic, and sauté for 5-7 minutes or until the mixture is softened and any liquid has evaporated. Set aside to cool slightly.

Step 3

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Step 4

Divide the ground beef mixture into 8 equal portions. Flatten each portion into a thin disc.

Step 5

Place a small spoonful of the mushroom mixture onto the center of 4 of the discs. Place the remaining discs on top of the mushroom-topped discs and gently seal the edges to form patties.

Step 6

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

Step 7

Reduce the heat to medium. Sprinkle the flour into the skillet and stir to combine with the pan drippings. Cook for 1 minute.

Step 8

Slowly add the beef broth while stirring or whisking to prevent lumps. Simmer for 3-5 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly.

Step 9

Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet and spoon the sauce over the top. Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes to warm through.

Step 10

Serve the mushroom stuffed hamburger steaks with the pan sauce drizzled over the top. Pair with mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables for a complete meal.
