Ingredients

  • 500 grams All-purpose flour
  • 100 grams Semolina
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Active dry yeast
  • 300 milliliters Warm water
  • 100 milliliters Vegetable oil
  • 50 grams Butter

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, semolina, salt, sugar, and yeast.

Step 2

Slowly add warm water while mixing, until the dough comes together.

Step 3

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Step 5

Divide the dough into small equal balls, about the size of a golf ball.

Step 6

Melt the butter and mix it with the vegetable oil in a small bowl.

Step 7

Generously oil your work surface and your hands, using the oil-butter mixture.

Step 8

Take one dough ball and flatten it with your hands until very thin and almost transparent.

Step 9

Fold in the edges to form a square, applying more of the oil-butter mix to each layer to prevent sticking.

Step 10

Repeat the flattening and folding process with all the dough balls.

Step 11

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.

Step 12

Cook each msemen square for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side until golden brown, pressing gently with a spatula for even cooking.

Step 13

Serve hot with honey, jam, or butter.
