Ingredients

  • 1 cup Dried hibiscus flowers
  • 1 medium Ripe mango
  • 6 cups Water
  • 3 tablespoons Honey (or sweetener of choice)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh lime juice
  • 4 slices Orange slices (optional, for garnish)
  • 1 cup Ice cubes (optional, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the dried hibiscus flowers under cold water to remove any impurities, then set aside.

Step 2

Peel the mango, remove the pit, and cut the flesh into small cubes. Set a few cubes aside for garnish if desired.

Step 3

In a medium saucepan, bring 6 cups of water to a boil over medium-high heat.

Step 4

Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed hibiscus flowers and reduce the heat to low. Let the flowers simmer for 10 minutes until the water turns a deep red color.

Step 5

Remove the saucepan from the heat and strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large heat-safe pitcher or bowl. Discard the hibiscus flowers.

Step 6

While the tea is still warm, stir in the honey (or sweetener of choice) until it dissolves completely.

Step 7

Blend the cubed mango in a blender or food processor until smooth. Pour the mango purée into the hibiscus tea and stir to combine.

Step 8

Add the fresh lime juice to the tea and mix well. Taste and adjust sweetness if necessary.

Step 9

Let the tea cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour to chill.

Step 10

Serve the tea over ice cubes in glasses, garnishing with orange slices and reserved mango cubes if desired.
