Ingredients

  • 1 pound Flank steak
  • 0.25 cup Cornstarch
  • 0.25 cup Vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup Soy sauce
  • 0.5 cup Brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger, grated
  • 4 stalks Green onions
  • 0.25 teaspoon Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Slice the flank steak thinly against the grain into bite-sized strips. Pat dry with paper towels to ensure even cooking.

Step 2

Place the sliced beef in a bowl and sprinkle with cornstarch, tossing to coat each piece evenly. Set aside for about 10 minutes while preparing the sauce.

Step 3

In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, and water until the sugar has dissolved. Set aside.

Step 4

Mince the garlic and grate the ginger. Thinly slice the green onions, separating the white and green parts.

Step 5

Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot, add the beef in batches to avoid overcrowding. Sear the steak for 1-2 minutes on each side until browned and crispy, then remove and set aside.

Step 6

In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and add the garlic, ginger, and white parts of the green onions. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 7

Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet, stirring constantly. Bring it to a simmer and let it reduce slightly for about 3 minutes.

Step 8

Add the cooked beef back into the skillet, tossing to coat it evenly with the sauce. If using, sprinkle in red pepper flakes for added spice. Cook for another 2 minutes until the beef is warmed through and the sauce has thickened.

Step 9

Remove from heat and garnish with the green parts of the sliced onions and sesame seeds if desired.

Step 10

Serve immediately with steamed rice or noodles.
