Ingredients

  • 1 pound Flank steak or boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 Large onion (sliced)
  • 3 Bell peppers (assorted colors, sliced)
  • 8 Tortillas (flour or corn)
  • 1 optional Toppings (sour cream, guacamole, salsa, shredded cheese)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine olive oil, lime juice, garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to create a marinade.

Step 2

Place the flank steak or chicken breasts in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the meat, ensuring it is fully coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish, and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours.

Step 3

Heat a large cast-iron skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. If using flank steak, cook for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or longer if desired. If using chicken, cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until fully cooked and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). Remove the meat from the pan and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing it thinly against the grain (for steak) or into strips (for chicken).

Step 4

In the same skillet, add a small drizzle of olive oil if needed. Add the onion and bell peppers, and sauté for 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the vegetables are tender and slightly caramelized.

Step 5

Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave until pliable.

Step 6

Assemble the fajitas by layering the sliced steak or chicken onto the warm tortillas, adding the sautéed vegetables on top. Serve with your favorite toppings such as sour cream, guacamole, salsa, or shredded cheese.

Step 7

Enjoy your savory and satisfying steak or chicken fajitas!
