Ingredients

  • 500 g Fresh prawns, shell-on and deveined
  • 3 pieces Fresh red bird’s eye chilies
  • 4 pieces Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 1 tsp Smoked paprika
  • 2 tbsp Lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1 tbsp White vinegar
  • 4 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper, freshly ground
  • 2 tbsp Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional, for garnish)
  • 4 pieces Lemon wedges (for serving)

Directions

Step 1

1. Rinse the prawns under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Leave the shells on for added flavor.

Step 2

2. In a blender or food processor, combine the red bird’s eye chilies, minced garlic, paprika, smoked paprika, lemon juice, white vinegar, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Blend until you achieve a smooth marinade.

Step 3

3. Place the prawns in a large mixing bowl and pour the marinade over them. Toss well to ensure the prawns are evenly coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more intensity.

Step 4

4. If grilling, preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Alternatively, use a large skillet or grill pan on your stovetop.

Step 5

5. Cook the prawns for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn pink and slightly charred. Be careful not to overcook as they can become rubbery.

Step 6

6. Transfer the cooked prawns to a serving platter, garnish with fresh cilantro if desired, and serve with lemon wedges on the side for an extra burst of tanginess.

Step 7

7. Enjoy your Mozambican Peri Peri Prawns with a side of crusty bread, rice, or a fresh salad!
