Ingredients

  • 500 g ground lamb
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh mint, chopped
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 120 ml plain yogurt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 0.5 tsp chili flakes (optional)
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 8 tomato slices
  • 8 cucumber slices

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground lamb, ground cumin, coriander, paprika, cinnamon, salt, black pepper, red onion, minced garlic, cilantro, and mint.

Step 2

Mix the ingredients thoroughly until well combined, but avoid overmixing to ensure tender burgers.

Step 3

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties, about 1 inch thick.

Step 4

Heat olive oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.

Step 5

Cook the lamb patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 63°C (145°F) for medium-rare, or longer if desired.

Step 6

While the burgers are cooking, prepare the yogurt sauce by stirring together plain yogurt, lemon juice, and chili flakes (if using) in a small bowl. Set aside.

Step 7

Toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or in a toaster.

Step 8

Assemble the burgers by spreading a generous amount of the yogurt sauce on the bottom half of each bun.

Step 9

Add a lettuce leaf, two slices of tomato, and two slices of cucumber to each bun.

Step 10

Place the cooked lamb patty on top and add more yogurt sauce if desired, then cover with the top half of the bun.

Step 11

Serve immediately and enjoy your Moroccan-inspired lamb burgers!
