Ingredients

  • 250 grams All-purpose flour
  • 50 grams Powdered sugar
  • 125 grams Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 1 medium orange Zest of orange
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 large Egg yolk
  • 50 grams Granulated sugar for coating (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, powdered sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt.

Step 3

Add the softened butter to the dry ingredients and mix using your hands or a pastry blender until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

Step 4

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and orange zest. Add this mixture to the flour-butter mixture.

Step 5

Knead the dough gently until it comes together in a soft ball. Do not overmix, as the cookies should remain tender.

Step 6

Divide the dough into 24 small portions (approximately 2 teaspoons each) and roll them into smooth balls.

Step 7

Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, leaving slight space between each cookie. Press down on each ball gently with your thumb or the bottom of a glass to flatten slightly.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. The cookies might still feel soft when removed from the oven but will firm up as they cool.

Step 9

If desired, roll the warm cookies in granulated sugar for added texture and sweetness.

Step 10

Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy with tea or coffee!
