Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup Soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup Water
  • 3 tablespoons Dark brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons Honey
  • 2 tablespoons Rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon Gochujang (Korean red pepper paste)
  • 2 teaspoons Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Cold water
  • 1 teaspoon Toasted sesame seeds (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Green onions, finely sliced (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, combine soy sauce, 1/4 cup water, dark brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and gochujang.

Step 2

Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir continuously to dissolve the sugar and honey. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.

Step 3

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water to create a slurry.

Step 4

Slowly pour the cornstarch slurry into the simmering sauce, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.

Step 5

Continue cooking the sauce for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until it thickens to your desired consistency.

Step 6

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool slightly. Taste and adjust if needed (add more honey for sweetness or a splash of rice vinegar for tanginess).

Step 7

Transfer the sauce to a clean jar or container. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and green onions if desired.

Step 8

Use immediately as a glaze, marinade, or dipping sauce, or store in the fridge for up to 1 week in an airtight container.
