Ingredients

  • 8 pieces chicken thighs
  • 0.5 cup soy sauce
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
  • 2 stalks scallions, sliced (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, ketchup, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil until well combined.

Step 3

Place the chicken thighs in a single layer in a baking dish. Pour the sauce over the chicken, ensuring each piece is fully coated.

Step 4

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Step 5

While the chicken is baking, mix the cornstarch and water in a small bowl to create a slurry.

Step 6

After 30 minutes, remove the foil from the baking dish, and pour the excess sauce from the dish into a small saucepan.

Step 7

Return the chicken to the oven uncovered and bake for an additional 10 minutes to allow the chicken to caramelize slightly.

Step 8

Simmer the sauce in the saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens to a glossy glaze.

Step 9

Remove the chicken from the oven and brush the thickened glaze over each piece. Reserve extra glaze for serving if desired.

Step 10

Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced scallions, if using, and serve immediately with steamed rice or your preferred side dish.
