Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1 small Yellow onion, diced
  • 2 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1.5 cups Pizza or marinara sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 16 oz tube Refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 0 Optional: sliced pepperoni or additional pizza toppings

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with olive oil.

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess grease.

Step 3

Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the ground beef. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the onion is translucent and fragrant.

Step 4

Stir in the pizza or marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Simmer the mixture for 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat.

Step 5

Spread the beef and sauce mixture evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

Step 6

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses evenly over the beef mixture. If desired, layer additional toppings such as pepperoni or vegetables over the cheese.

Step 7

Open the tube of refrigerated biscuit dough. Separate the biscuits and flatten each slightly with your hands. Arrange them evenly over the top of the cheese layer, covering as much surface area as possible.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.

Step 9

Remove the dish from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes. To serve, invert portions onto plates so that the biscuit topping becomes the base, showcasing the cheesy, saucy goodness on top.

Step 10

Enjoy your comforting and delicious Mom's Upside Down Pizza!
