Ingredients

  • 6 cups (crumbled) Cornbread
  • 2 cups (crumbled) Stale white bread
  • 1 cup (divided) Unsalted butter
  • 2 medium (diced) Yellow onion
  • 4 stalks (diced) Celery
  • 4 cups Chicken broth
  • 2 large (beaten) Eggs
  • 2 tablespoons (chopped) Fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon Dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon Dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 as needed for greasing Cooking spray

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a large baking dish with cooking spray and set aside.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, crumble the cornbread and stale white bread until the texture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet, melt 3/4 cup of the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and celery, cooking until softened, about 10 minutes.

Step 4

Pour the cooked onion and celery mixture over the crumbled breads in the mixing bowl.

Step 5

Add the chicken broth, beaten eggs, fresh parsley, dried sage, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper to the bowl. Mix well until fully incorporated. The mixture should be moist but not soupy. Add more broth, one tablespoon at a time, if needed.

Step 6

Transfer the dressing mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out into an even layer.

Step 7

Melt the remaining 1/4 cup butter and drizzle it evenly over the top of the dressing.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and slightly crispy.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let the dressing rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Step 10

Serve warm alongside turkey and gravy for a classic Thanksgiving feast!
