Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 unit large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoons salt

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using a hand mixer or stand mixer until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.

Step 3

Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until a dough forms. Do not overmix.

Step 6

Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Step 7

Using the bottom of a glass or your palm, gently flatten each dough ball slightly to ensure even baking.

Step 8

Bake the cookies for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underbaked but will set as they cool.

Step 9

Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

Serve plain or decorate with frosting, sprinkles, or powdered sugar as desired. Enjoy!
