Ingredients

  • 1 cup Warm water
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup Whole milk
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter (melted and cooled slightly)
  • 1 large Egg
  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter (for brushing rolls)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, active dry yeast, and granulated sugar. Stir gently and let the mixture sit for 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.

Step 2

Add the whole milk, melted butter, and egg to the yeast mixture. Stir until well combined.

Step 3

Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt, stirring the dough until it becomes shaggy and starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl.

Step 4

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it by hand for about 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. Alternatively, you can use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment for 5-6 minutes.

Step 5

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, turning it to coat all sides with a thin layer of oil. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Step 6

Punch down the dough to release air and divide it into 12 equal portions. Shape each portion into a smooth ball and place them on a greased or parchment-lined baking dish, spacing them slightly apart.

Step 7

Cover the rolls loosely with a towel and allow them to rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until they double in size.

Step 8

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 9

Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.

Step 10

Remove the rolls from the oven and brush them with the reserved melted butter while still warm.

Step 11

Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them fresh with butter, jam, or as a side for your favorite meal!
