Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 pound Ground Italian sausage
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 teaspoons Dried basil
  • 2 teaspoons Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 Egg
  • 0.5 cups Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 12 pieces Lasagna noodles
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until softened, about 3 minutes.

Step 3

Add the ground beef and ground Italian sausage to the skillet. Cook, breaking it into small chunks, until browned and fully cooked, about 8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Step 4

Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer the sauce for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 5

While the sauce simmers, prepare the ricotta mixture. In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, and 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese. Mix well and set aside.

Step 6

Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and lay flat on a clean towel to prevent sticking.

Step 7

Spread about 1 cup of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 8

Place 3 to 4 lasagna noodles in a single layer over the sauce.

Step 9

Spread a third of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then top with a layer of meat sauce and 1 cup of shredded mozzarella.

Step 10

Repeat the layering process two more times: noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and shredded mozzarella.

Step 11

For the final layer, top with the remaining meat sauce and sprinkle with the last 1 cup of mozzarella cheese.

Step 12

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil, making sure the foil does not touch the cheese. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Step 13

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.

Step 14

Let the lasagna rest for 15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve warm.
