  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 0.5 lb Italian sausage
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 oz Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 6 oz Tomato paste
  • 15 oz Canned tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Dried basil
  • 1.5 tsp Dried oregano
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 15 oz Ricotta cheese
  • 1 large Egg
  • 0.5 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 12 pieces Lasagne noodles
  • 3 tbsp Fresh parsley, chopped

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, Italian sausage, and diced onion. Cook until the meat is browned and the onions are softened, about 7-8 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Step 3

Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir well and let the sauce simmer uncovered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 4

While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the lasagne noodles according to the package instructions, then drain and lay them flat on a baking sheet to prevent sticking.

In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan, and 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley. Mix until well blended.

Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Arrange 3-4 lasagne noodles over the sauce to create the first layer.

Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella over the ricotta. Spread a layer of meat sauce over the mozzarella. Repeat this process for two more layers, ending with meat sauce on top.

Step 8

Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of mozzarella cheese evenly over the top layer of sauce. Cover the dish with aluminum foil, being careful not to let the foil touch the cheese.

Step 9

Bake the lasagne in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and slightly golden on the edges.

Step 10

Remove the lasagne from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Sprinkle the top with remaining parsley for garnish before serving.
