Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and lay them flat on wax paper to prevent sticking.
In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add the ground beef, Italian sausage, and diced onion. Cook until the meat is browned and the onion is translucent, about 8-10 minutes.
Stir in minced garlic, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, dried basil, oregano, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat to low and simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
