Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs Ground beef (80% lean)
  • 0.5 lbs Italian sausage (mild)
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs (Italian seasoned)
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 2 Eggs
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 3 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 small Yellow onion (finely diced)
  • 0.25 cup Fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 1 tsp Dried oregano
  • 1.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 cup Marinara sauce
  • 0.25 cup Ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease a loaf pan.

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onions and minced garlic. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the onions are softened and translucent. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Italian sausage, breadcrumbs, milk, eggs, Parmesan cheese, sautéed onion and garlic mixture, parsley, oregano, salt, and black pepper.

Step 4

Using your hands, gently mix until all ingredients are evenly combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this will make the meatloaf dense.

Step 5

Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared baking sheet or loaf pan. Shape it into a loaf, approximately 9 inches long and 4 inches wide.

Step 6

In a small bowl, mix together the marinara sauce and ketchup. Spread half of this mixture evenly over the top of the meatloaf.

Step 7

Bake the meatloaf in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove from the oven, spread the remaining marinara and ketchup mixture on top, and return to the oven.

Step 8

Bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the meatloaf reaches 160°F (71°C).

Step 9

Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with additional chopped parsley if desired.
