Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cup Warm water
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Ground cinnamon
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 ounces Cream cheese
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tablespoons Milk (for frosting)

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, heat the milk until warm but not boiling. Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar and 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter until melted. Set aside and let cool to lukewarm.

Step 2

In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in 1/4 cup of warm water. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the lukewarm milk mixture, frothy yeast mixture, and eggs. Stir to combine.

Step 4

Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt to the liquid mixture, stirring until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment for 6-8 minutes.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 6

While the dough is rising, prepare the cinnamon filling by combining the brown sugar and ground cinnamon in a small bowl.

Step 7

Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down and roll it out into a 16x12-inch rectangle on a floured surface.

Step 8

Spread 6 tablespoons of softened butter over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered surface.

Step 9

Starting at the longer side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut it into 12 equal slices using a sharp knife or dental floss.

Step 10

Place the slices, cut side up, into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover with a towel and let rise for another 30 minutes.

Step 11

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 12

While the rolls are baking, prepare the frosting by beating the cream cheese and remaining butter (2 tablespoons) together until smooth. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and 1-2 tablespoons of milk, beating until creamy and spreadable.

Step 13

Once the cinnamon rolls are done, remove them from the oven and let cool slightly. Spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the top.

Step 14

Serve warm and enjoy!
