Ingredients

  • 8 pieces Chicken drumsticks or thighs
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Dried thyme
  • 1 cup Chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons Honey
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoons Ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).

Step 2

Season the chicken pieces with salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and dried thyme. Rub the seasoning evenly over the chicken.

Step 3

Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Sear the chicken pieces for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove the chicken and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, combine chicken broth, honey, brown sugar, soy sauce, and ketchup. Stir well and bring the mixture to a simmer.

Step 5

Return the chicken pieces to the skillet, making sure they are coated with the sauce.

Step 6

Cover the skillet and transfer it to the preheated oven. Cook for 2 hours, basting the chicken with the sauce every 30 minutes.

Step 7

After 2 hours, uncover the skillet and cook for an additional 30 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken and caramelize slightly.

Step 8

To further thicken the sauce, mix the cornstarch with water in a small bowl to create a slurry. Stir the slurry into the sauce in the skillet and simmer on the stovetop for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens to your liking.

Step 9

Serve the chicken hot with the sauce spooned over the top. Pair with rice, mashed potatoes, or your favorite vegetables for a complete meal.
