Ingredients

  • 12 oz fresh cranberries
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 0.5 cup orange juice
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 0.25 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the fresh cranberries in cold water and discard any mushy or damaged berries.

Step 2

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and orange juice. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves completely.

Step 3

Add the rinsed cranberries to the saucepan and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. The cranberries will begin to pop and the sauce will thicken.

Step 5

Once the cranberries have all burst and the sauce reaches your desired consistency, remove the saucepan from heat.

Step 6

Stir in the orange zest and ground cinnamon (if using) for added flavor.

Step 7

Allow the cranberry sauce to cool to room temperature. It will thicken further as it cools.

Step 8

Transfer the sauce to a serving dish or airtight container and refrigerate until ready to serve. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
