Ingredients

  • 4 pieces Chicken breasts
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Milk
  • 1.5 cups Breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 4 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 cups Marinara sauce
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 6 pieces Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
  • 4 cups Cooked spaghetti (optional, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Step 2

Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.

Step 3

Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, the second with beaten eggs mixed with milk, and the third with breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, oregano, and garlic powder.

Step 4

Dredge each chicken breast in the flour, shaking off the excess. Dip it into the egg mixture, let the excess drip off, and then coat it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.

Step 5

Heat the olive oil in a large, oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Cook the breaded chicken breasts for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown (they do not need to be fully cooked at this stage).

Step 6

Remove the skillet from heat. Spoon marinara sauce over each chicken breast, spreading it evenly. Top each breast with shredded mozzarella cheese.

Step 7

Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature of 165°F) and the cheese is melted and bubbling.

Step 8

Garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired, and serve hot. Pair with cooked spaghetti and additional marinara sauce for a complete meal.
