Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 large White onion, diced
  • 1 medium head Green cabbage, chopped
  • 1 14.5-ounce can Stewed tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 8-ounce can Tomato sauce
  • 1 cup White rice, uncooked
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 2

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.

Step 3

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat.

Step 4

Stir in the garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and set aside.

Step 5

Spread half of the chopped cabbage evenly on the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

Step 6

Add the uncooked white rice as an even layer over the cabbage.

Step 7

Spread the browned ground beef mixture on top of the rice.

Step 8

Top with the remaining chopped cabbage, spreading it out evenly.

Step 9

In a medium bowl, combine the stewed tomatoes (with liquid), tomato sauce, and beef broth. Stir well to create the sauce mixture.

Step 10

Pour the sauce evenly over the layered ingredients in the baking dish, ensuring the rice is fully covered by the liquid.

Step 11

Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes.

Step 12

Remove the foil and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top.

Step 13

Return the dish to the oven and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 14

Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Step 15

Serve warm and enjoy!
