Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter (cold)
  • 0.75 cup whole milk
  • 0.25 cup extra flour (for dusting)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until well combined.

Step 3

Cut the cold butter into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4

Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the milk. Gently stir with a fork until the dough comes together, being careful not to overmix.

Step 5

Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough out onto it. Gently knead the dough 5-6 times until it comes together into a smooth ball.

Step 6

Pat the dough out to about 1/2-inch thickness. Use a 2-inch round biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass to cut out the biscuits. Gently gather and re-roll the scraps to cut out more biscuits.

Step 7

Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they are close together for softer sides or farther apart for crispier edges.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with butter, jam, or your favorite toppings.
