Ingredients

  • 12 cups day-old bread, cubed
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 4 stalks celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 0.25 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh sage, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set it aside.

Step 2

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions, celery, and garlic. Sauté for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened and fragrant.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed bread with the sautéed vegetables. Toss gently to evenly distribute the vegetables.

Step 4

Drizzle the chicken or vegetable broth over the bread mixture a little at a time while gently tossing to coat. The bread should be moist but not soggy.

Step 5

Add the chopped parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to evenly incorporate the herbs and seasonings.

Step 6

Stir in the beaten eggs until the mixture is well-combined.

Step 7

Transfer the stuffing mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Step 8

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Step 9

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and slightly crispy.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and allow the stuffing to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
