Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 0.25 cup Onion, finely chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.75 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 1 cup Applesauce (unsweetened)
  • 0.5 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.

Step 3

Using clean hands or a scoop, form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 4

Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until they are browned and cooked through.

Step 5

While the meatballs are baking, prepare the sauce. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the applesauce, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and olive oil. Stir well and let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

Step 6

Once the meatballs are cooked, transfer them to the saucepan with the applesauce glaze. Gently stir to coat the meatballs evenly with the sauce.

Step 7

Reduce the heat to low and let the meatballs simmer in the sauce for an additional 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 8

Serve the applesauce meatballs warm over rice, mashed potatoes, or noodles, or enjoy them as an appetizer straight from the skillet.
