Ingredients

  • 6 medium (about 2.5 lbs) Granny Smith apples
  • 0.75 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup (melted) Unsalted butter
  • 0.75 cup Whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish lightly with butter or non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2

Peel, core, and slice the Granny Smith apples into 1/4-inch thick slices. Place the apple slices in a large bowl.

Step 3

Add 0.5 cup of the granulated sugar, all the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg to the apples. Toss everything together until the apples are evenly coated. Set aside.

Step 4

In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, remaining 0.25 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Step 5

In a separate container, mix the melted butter, whole milk, and vanilla extract until well combined. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until a smooth batter forms.

Step 6

Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it into an even layer.

Step 7

Spread the spiced apple mixture evenly over the batter, then pour the remaining batter on top of the apples. Spread gently with a spatula to partially cover the apples (it’s okay if not all the apples are fully covered).

Step 8

Place the dish into the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and set, and the filling is bubbling.

Step 9

Allow the cobbler to rest for 10-15 minutes before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
