Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)
  • 1 cup Cooked white or brown rice
  • 1 medium head Cabbage, roughly chopped
  • 1 medium Onion, diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 8 ounces Tomato sauce
  • 1 cup Beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.

Step 2

Add the minced garlic and ground beef (or turkey) to the skillet. Cook until the meat is browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Drain any excess fat if necessary.

Step 3

In a large slow cooker, layer the bottom with half of the chopped cabbage.

Step 4

Add the browned meat mixture on top of the cabbage layer.

Step 5

Sprinkle the cooked rice evenly over the meat layer.

Step 6

Top with the remaining half of the chopped cabbage.

Step 7

In a mixing bowl, combine the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, broth, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

Step 8

Pour the tomato mixture evenly into the slow cooker over the cabbage layers.

Step 9

Cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on LOW for 4-5 hours or on HIGH for 2-3 hours, until the cabbage is tender and flavors are well combined.

Step 10

Stir gently before serving, ensuring everything is evenly incorporated.

Step 11

Serve warm, garnished with chopped parsley for a touch of freshness.
