Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups Chicken broth
  • 0.5 cups Whole milk
  • 0.25 cups Cooked chicken, finely shredded
  • 0.5 teaspoons Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Onion powder
  • 0.75 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.

Step 2

Once the butter is melted, whisk in the all-purpose flour. Stir continuously for 1-2 minutes to cook out the raw flour taste and form a smooth roux.

Step 3

Gradually add the chicken broth to the roux, whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming.

Step 4

Pour in the whole milk and continue whisking until the mixture starts to thicken, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 5

Stir in the finely shredded cooked chicken, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and ground black pepper. Mix well to combine and adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 6

Cook for another 2 minutes, stirring frequently, until the soup reaches the desired condensed consistency and is smooth and creamy.

Step 7

Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before using in your recipe or storing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
