Ingredients

  • 300 g Ground chicken
  • 1 small Carrot, finely grated
  • 2 stalks Green onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Ginger, minced
  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Sesame oil
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 16 sheets Spring roll wrappers
  • 1 Egg, beaten (for sealing)
  • 500 ml Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 3 tbsp Ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Rice vinegar
  • 1.5 tbsp Honey
  • 1 tsp Cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp Water

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, grated carrot, chopped green onion, minced garlic, minced ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well incorporated.

Step 2

Lay a single spring roll wrapper flat on a clean surface, with one corner pointing towards you (like a diamond shape).

Step 3

Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the chicken mixture near the bottom corner of the wrapper.

Step 4

Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the two side corners, and roll it tightly toward the top corner.

Step 5

Brush the top corner with a little beaten egg to seal, and set aside. Repeat with the remaining filling and wrappers.

Step 6

Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or saucepan over medium heat to 180°C (350°F).

Step 7

Fry the chicken cigars in batches for 3-4 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate.

Step 8

To make the dipping sauce, whisk together ketchup, rice vinegar, and honey in a small saucepan over medium heat.

Step 9

In a separate small bowl, dissolve cornstarch in water and add to the saucepan. Stir until the sauce thickens, then remove from heat.

Step 10

Serve the mini chicken cigars hot, with the sweet and sour dipping sauce on the side.
