Ingredients

  • 3 slices Bread slices (preferably slightly stale)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 large Egg
  • 200 milliliters Milk
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Raisins (optional)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground cinnamon (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Butter one side of each bread slice using 1 tablespoon of butter in total. Tear the buttered bread into small pieces and arrange them in a microwave-safe dish (roughly 6 inches in diameter).

Step 2

If using, sprinkle raisins evenly over the bread pieces.

Step 3

In a microwave-safe measuring jug or bowl, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter in the microwave (about 20 seconds).

Step 4

Whisk the egg, milk, sugar, and vanilla extract into the melted butter until well combined. Add ground cinnamon, if desired.

Step 5

Pour the egg and milk mixture evenly over the bread pieces, ensuring all the bread gets soaked. Gently press the bread with the back of a spoon to help it absorb the liquid.

Step 6

Place the dish in the microwave and cook on medium power for 5-6 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is slightly golden. The cooking time may vary depending on your microwave’s wattage.

Step 7

Allow the pudding to rest for 2 minutes after cooking; it will firm up slightly as it cools.

Step 8

Serve warm on its own or with a dollop of cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
