Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 buns soft burger buns
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet or sauté pan over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon, until browned and fully cooked. Remove the beef from the pan with a slotted spoon and set aside. Drain excess fat from the pan but leave about 1 tablespoon for cooking the vegetables.

Step 2

In the same pan, add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté for 5–6 minutes until the vegetables are softened and aromatic.

Step 3

Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1–2 minutes to deepen the flavor.

Step 4

Return the cooked ground beef to the pan and mix with the vegetables.

Step 5

Add the ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar to the pan. Stir well to combine all ingredients.

Step 6

Season the mixture with paprika, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper. Let the mixture simmer on low heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the flavors meld and the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 7

While the filling simmers, toast the burger buns. Spread a small amount of butter on the cut sides of each bun and toast them in a hot skillet or under a broiler until golden brown.

Step 8

Spoon the beef mixture generously onto the bottom halves of the toasted buns and top with the other half of the buns. Serve immediately and enjoy!
