Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 cup Tomato sauce
  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 1 tsp Chili powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 6 Burger buns
  • 2 tbsp Butter

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 2

Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked, about 7-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat if needed.

Step 3

Push the beef to one side of the skillet and add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the empty side. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened and fragrant, then mix with the beef.

Step 4

Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, paprika, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the flavors meld together.

Step 6

While the mixture simmers, butter the insides of the burger buns and lightly toast them in a separate skillet or on a griddle until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 7

Spoon generous portions of the beef mixture onto the bottom halves of the toasted buns, then place the top halves on to form sandwiches.

Step 8

Serve immediately with your favorite sides, such as coleslaw, pickles, or potato chips.
