Ingredients

  • 4 large Flour tortillas
  • 3 medium Apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, peeled and diced)
  • 3 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 3 tablespoons Butter (unsalted)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons Raisins (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1 large Egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon Milk (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon Powdered sugar (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Stir well to coat the apples evenly.

Step 3

Cook the apples for 5–7 minutes until softened but not mushy. If using raisins or chopped nuts, stir them in during the last 2 minutes of cooking. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.

Step 4

Lay a flour tortilla flat on a clean surface. Spoon about 2–3 tablespoons of the apple filling along the center of the tortilla, leaving a border of about 1 inch on each side.

Step 5

Fold the sides of the tortilla inward, then roll it tightly from the bottom to form a burrito-like shape. Repeat with the remaining tortillas and filling.

Step 6

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk to make an egg wash. Brush the rolled tortillas with the egg wash to help them crisp up in the oven.

Step 7

Place the rolled tortillas seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter and lightly brush it over the tops of the tortillas for extra flavor and crispiness.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes, or until the tortillas are golden brown and crispy.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Dust the tops with powdered sugar before serving.

Step 10

Serve warm on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a truly indulgent treat.
