Ingredients

  • 500 grams All-purpose flour
  • 300 milliliters Warm water (38-43°C)
  • 7 grams Instant yeast
  • 15 grams Granulated sugar
  • 10 grams Salt
  • 30 grams Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 15 milliliters Milk (optional, for brushing)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the instant yeast on top and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

Step 2

Add the melted butter and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until combined.

Step 3

Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the wet ingredients, one cup at a time, stirring with a wooden spoon or a dough hook on a stand mixer until the dough comes together.

Step 4

Once the dough becomes cohesive, transfer it to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic. Alternatively, knead with a stand mixer for 5-7 minutes.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 6

Punch down the dough to release air bubbles and transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased 9x5 inch (23x13 cm) loaf pan.

Step 7

Cover the loaf pan and let the dough rise again for 30-40 minutes, or until it has risen slightly above the edge of the pan.

Step 8

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). If desired, brush the top of the dough with milk for a golden crust.

Step 9

Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.

Step 10

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
