Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 cups Unsalted butter
  • 1.25 cups Granulated sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cups Whole milk
  • 2 cups Apples (peeled, cored, and diced)
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large bowl, beat the butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then mix in the vanilla extract.

Step 5

Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.

Step 6

Gently fold in the diced apples using a spatula.

Step 7

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth out the top with a spatula.

Step 8

Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top of the batter for a caramelized topping.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 11

Once cooled, dust the top with powdered sugar, if desired, before serving.
