Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground black pepper
  • 0.75 cups Butter (unsalted, softened)
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 0.5 cups Molasses
  • 0.25 cups Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and ground black pepper. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using a hand mixer or stand mixer until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Add the eggs one at a time to the butter-sugar mixture, beating well after each addition.

Step 5

Mix in the molasses until fully incorporated.

Step 6

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 7

Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are set.

Step 9

Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

Optional: Once the cookies are completely cool, lightly dust them with powdered sugar for a decorative finish.
